Nothing to much to report as I was very much out of practice!! Scott did well in his first weekend of grade 6, but I really need to be in the UK for more than a week if im going to do any good! Some nice photo's though, thanks to David & Ceri!

Training Plans From Denmark & Update

Well it seems like ages since I have written on here, and to be fair I guess it is.

I am back from Ribe now. I flew into Stansted Monday morning. I don’t know why I have such weird experiences on flights at the moment, but whilst cruising at 38,000 feet our jet suddenly banked violently right and the left again. It was totally out of the blue, quite scary I guess but the funniest thing was the women seated a few rows back from me, who screamed at the top of her lungs down the cabin... she must have felt so stupid after we all stared at her!!

The last week in Denmark I have been teaching the importance of the ability to be able to turn and work your dog at a distance. The handlers made some stunning progress, not just in actual handling terms, but also in the understanding of the method and principal behind what we were trying to do.

The other three trainers were Ann Brit, Jenny & Peter. I think the standard of trainers and participants was really high. A huge thank you to Pia Metz for the invite in the first place!

The week also involved a great deal of social events too. Some of the best laughs I have had at a dog show. The biggest ever Ice Cream I have seen from Ribe (Thanks Peter!) as well as making a lot of friends. I really am made to feel so welcome and cannot wait for Julantia Cup in July.

This weekend is Thames Show, the best show for a good social in the UK. My dogs have hardly seen me this last month let alone trained, so I am not expecting too much in all fairness!

Next up is a trip back to Standford, Norway, leaving Thursday 18th June for a week.

Update from Ribe, Denmark

Hello.



I am writing this from a friend’s house as the venue I am staying at has no internet and I have a feeling I may not have it again this week.



I flew to Billund on Sunday, and today (Monday) I judged the class 2&3 and also the Final of the Cup class. (Small/Medium/Large) it was really fun and I felt that the course allowed for speed as well as testing area’s. Well done to all the winners.



The rest of today I am relaxing, tomorrow also is a free day. On Wednesday & Thursday we have 6 hours of seminars with 4 different groups, who rotate around. I am paired up with Peter Krone, so the 4 groups who follow us will be taught by us both.



Friday is a rest day, and then we do the seminars again on Saturday & Sunday. I fly back to Stansted on Monday at around 11am.



I am sure this week will be fun and the training should be really good also. It is very hot at the moment, almost too hot, but it seems like it will be dry at least, which is very good!

Thank you Oulu.

Today I am heading back to the UK. It has been a great few days up here in Oulu, which ended yesterday with a great second day at the show, and a Finnish experience I will not forget in a long time.

Sari, Miina & Santeri took me to a Smoke sauna in the middle of nowhere, it felt like we drove for miles into just forest. The roads were so straight!

Once we arrived we had dinner and then went into the smoke sauna which was, as expected very warm. I am slowly getting used to the extreme heat in the sauna’s, but then walking out the sauna and jumping starker’s into the adjacent river at about 10pm was something else. It was such a body shock and took my breath away! The Finns keep saying all this its good for you...??!! It was a fun evening and I enjoyed it a lot.

I have had a great time in Oulu and thanks to everyone for making it possible.

The weather was fairly kind to us today, only one real heavy burst of rain. I hope for the same tomorrow.

Oulu Day 1

Well here I am writing from Oulu.

The flight was so much better it does not compare to last Fridays, and it is nice to see another region of Finland. I am in fact only 100km or so from the Arctic Circle, which is impressive. The sun is just going down and it is 23.45pm now.

I have 8 hours of seminars tomorrow, so will get to sleep soon I think. I had 5 hours this evening, one of which was ran via a translator which was fun!!
