Update Post WC

Hello,



This is probably the first time I have had chance to update since I came back from the WC.. and right now I am in Norway doing a week of training seminars before judging here in Tonsberg. It really never stops atm. I was in the UK for about 20hours before flying off again yesterday, I will return next Monday.


My results at the WC were as follows:


Individual Jumping C placed 35th


Scott’s round was good, it was the slippery carpet and we struggled a bit at first, losing some time on some skids, but overall I was happy.


Team Jumping GB 5f placed 2nd


We were winning the team jumping round until the second last team, who did 3 clears but were 7 seconds slower. Team GB did such a good job in that class. Scott’s round was ranked 7th quickest of the day on that course, I am very happy with that result.

Team Agility GB 2 x C & 1 E. Sadly for me it was my round that had the E. Scott turned wide again due to the carpet, and he skidded into and jumped the side of the long jump. I was gutted, but Anthony Clarke & Greg Derrett were such good team mates that I didn’t feel bad for too long, it was great being on such a quality team.


Many people offered support, but I am more focused on the massive positives we took from the event. We will be better and stronger next time for all the experiences (good & bad) and I want to compete on the world stage again!


Individual Agility 10f Scott skidded into the correct weave, but could not maintain any grip for the second weave. After that part of the course, the rest of the round was brilliant and I was very happy after it, despite the faults on the weave.


Overall Ranked 40th.

Well done to all of Team GB at the worlds. They all did a super job and our country proud.

Thursday Morning Training Session

Team GB training session.



Okay, just a quick update. The rest of the GB team arrived at the hotel yesterday (Weds) and we had a delayed team meeting at 9.00pm. The atmosphere in the team was good and everyone was anticipating the event with excitement.


This morning we had an early alarm call for the team training session. The GB team broke the course up into 3 lanes, and the large, medium & small all took a lane, swapping on every 6 mins.


The surface was very slippy. Much more so than the astro-turf we have been training on, but I felt that Scott adapted quite well as the session went on. I did everything I wanted to do and we all said we were happy afterwards.


So now Im back at the hotel. The rest of the day is ours. Tonight we have a buffet meal for the team and then its early to bed, ready for Individual Jumping round tomorrow morning, after the opening ceremony, which starts around 8am.


Individual Large jumping is first up, and I am running order 48. Right now I just want to get started and get into that competition ring.. I am excited and looking forward to running with the GB flag on my shirt.

WC France - travel day & arrival

We have arrived in our hotel in France. Today was a fairly long drive from Shropshire down to Marcs house in Crawley, then on to the channel tunnel and on to the Hotel 12 miles north of Lieven in France.

Tonight we all had a nice meal in the local town. The food was good and we managed to remain quite orderly in the resturant!

Scott has had a quite easy day, lots of time in the van and in my room sleeping and relaxing. It will be nice to catch up with some sleep overnight and relax again tomorrow.

Tomorrow we intend to visit the WC venue after breakfast, followed by some down time. The rest of the GB team arrive tomorrow afternoon, with a team meeting in the hotel tomorrow night.

Leaving for the World Champs - France

Hello,

 

Just a review of Chippingham show, a lovely hot weekend, but I only ran 3 courses to train Scotty over the contacts ect. I was not going to push very hard. In fact it was so hot that the dogs kind of just liked to relax rather than run.

Monday I had a light session with Greg & Anthony which went really well. We are all just waiting to get out to France now though.

Tuesday 4th


By the time most of you are reading this I will be on the road heading for France. I take the ETunnel accross to France at Midday Tuesday, with a rest day Wednesday to follow which is also my Birthday, but there will be no wild celebrations this year.. not until after this week is out at least!

Thursday 6th is the training day. GB is training at 8.19am - 8.39am. So a fairly early start.

Friday 7th is Indiviual Jumping

Saturday 8th is the Team event, both Agility & Jumping

Sunday 9th is the Indiviual Agility final round.

Thank you to everyone for all the good luck messages, it is really great to feel the support of Great Britain behind us, its an even bigger incentive (as if I needed one!) to go out there and do GB proud. Thank you.

Dutch Seminars & Shows in Belgium

Hello

Here is my new update!

Last Wednesday evening (21^st) I set off along with Anthony Clarke and Sian Illingworth to drive up to Holland.

Anthony & Myself were due to give a 6 hour seminar on the Thursday, starting at 9am. For some reason we had decided it would be a good idea to drive over night, aiming to arrive around 2am.. However this was never a realistic target, and we actually arrived at 7am!!!

After a 1hour power nap, Ant & I got up and started the training sessions. We were at Carl De Rouck & Marielle Bugel’s training venue, which was lovely and also a little windy, which helped freshen us up a bit!

The day was focused on pull through and turns, handler positioning & timing and straight line selection. The handlers on the course were great and they worked very hard to improve on the areas we were focusing on. Also we managed to cope with the lack of sleep okay, we were very happy at the end of the day with how it had gone.

On the Friday we did 2 sessions again, with different students. The weather was lovely for the two days and once training was finished, we drove south west back to Gent  in Belgium where were staying at the F1 hotel, ready for 2 shows that ran over the weekend.

The hotel was, shall we say basic. It was fairly cheap, but felt like more a offenders hostel than a hotel. It did the job though and we were fairly centrally placed for the two competitions.

Over the two shows we all had some fantastic results, between us gaining several wins, seconds & thirds. One of the wins was Scotty on the Sunday in Agility class 3. I was very happy with the results but more so the courses that we got were great preparation for the WC. Saturdays even had a table in it, and Sundays had the Frame tyre (the type that we don’t get in UK).

A big thank you to everyone who helped us organise the trip and was so nice to us whilst we were there, especially Birthe Verhaert who did a lot of organising for us.

On the evenings we went into Gent itself, which was a lovely city. We ate some lovely food and enjoyed the culture.

The drive back was long, I arrived back at home at 3am. On the Monday Greg, Anthony & Myself met up to train again for the Worlds. It was a good session but we did do some hard sequences. The weather this week has been very hot, so I am not doing to much with even my lessons, let a lone my own dogs.

This weekend is Chippingham show. I am going but not sure how much I will run with the WC so close, il only do the odd training round this weekend & maybe the Champ class.

Well done to Jenny Goude for coming 2^nd in the ProPlan final, and well done to Barry & Kip for coming 2^nd in the Alpha Agility Final. Yet more great results from my students this year, I am very proud of you all. Well done.

NIreland Judging & Training

NI Judging & Training

Last Friday I flew out from Birmingham to Belfast for the weekend. I was due to judge at a show on the Saturday, and conduct a training seminar on the Sunday.

The forecast for the weekend was not particularly great; in fact it was very wet and windy. I decided that although I normally dress up smart to judge, it was better to do a good job and be warm, than to look smart and to be cold!

I judged 1-3agility, 4-7 agility, 1-5agility and 6&7 agility. The last course of the day I built was one of my courses I have used before in Norwary. (I also used it at Dog Vegas this year) and it was better if you could send your dog to the weave, rather than take it into the weave. It made for a great atmosphere and the handlers enjoyed the challenge.

On the Sunday I did 2 x 3hours of training sessions. The first group was more advanced, whilst the second group consisted of slightly less experienced dogs.

I focused on efficiency in handling and also how to shape / que turns before the dog became airborne over jumps. Another feature of the training was weave entries, and how to a) teach your dog to find them b) how to handle and mentally approach the training of weave entries c) the progression and isolation of skills associated with weave entries.

The afternoon group were keen to learn motivational skills and how to stay connected with their dog whilst handling on the course. There were in fact several examples of the dog and handler ‘splitting’ but we managed to do some good work to maintain a consistent and effective handling style.

Thanks to everyone who organised and attended the seminars. I enjoyed my weekend judging & training.

This week is busy again. Wednesday I travel with my friend Anthony Clarke to do a 2 day joint seminar in Holland, followed by a show in Ghent (Belgium) over the weekend as preparation for the World Champs that are just around the corner!

So it is more days on the road before the final countdown to the FCI World Championships. Exciting times.
